What Is an Ear Keloid?

A keloid is an overgrowth of scar tissue that develops at the site of a wound or skin injury. On the ear, they most commonly appear after piercings, particularly on the earlobe or upper cartilage. Keloids can grow significantly larger than the original wound, becoming uncomfortable, itchy, or cosmetically distressing.

Unlike normal scars, keloids do not settle on their own — and without proper treatment, they tend to continue growing.

How Are Ear Keloids Treated?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and typically takes 30–45 minutes. You are awake throughout but completely comfortable once the area is numbed.

What Is the Recurrence Rate?

Keep the wound dry for 48 hours
Stitches are removed at 7–10 days
